Summer 2024 Makeup Trends

Summer beauty is my jam, and this summer's biggest makeup trends are some of my personal all-time favorite go-to looks, so I couldn't be more excited to share them with you! Summery makeup is meant to be fresh, light, glowy - to catch the gorgeous summer sun in all the right ways & have you feeling like a bronzed goddess, and not a melty mess. Keep your skin light and fresh, less is more - maybe even try skipping foundation & just using strategically placed concealer instead of coverage all over (I'm loving Tower 28 Beauty Swipe All Over Hydrating Serum Concealer & Kosas Revealer Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer). Please don't forget to start all your summer looks with your favorite SPF (my favorite is Elta MD UV Elements Tinted), and finish with a setting spray (Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Makeup Setting Spray is my ride or die, that ish will keep your makeup looking freshly applied through pretty much anything).

Glossy Lids

I've personally been obsessed with glossy lids for years (the fixation started circa early 2020 for me, and has honestly held strong in my heart ever since, I'm always looking for the right opportunity to add gloss to an eye look on-set). So, I'm obviously personally thrilled to see this fun look finally entering the mainstream. Glossy lids are a bit of a high maintenance look (read: gloss creases, smudges, and generally doesn't stay where its put on eyes), so it makes sense that its taken its sweet time being adopted by a larger sphere than editorial shoots and on the runways. I could wax poetic for a while about the ways you can go about layering glosses over shadows, but your best bet is to stick to long-wear waterproof cream shadows (Danessa Myricks Beauty Color Fix is my top pick, and comes in an impressive range of colors from neutrals to brights, in both matte and shimmery finishes) - a little goes a long way with this product, so apply a thin layer over the lids & allow it to fully dry down. Then, top it off with a small amount of a gloss - my favorite on the eyes is Danessa Myricks Beauty Color Fix Glaze.

Satin Finish Skin

Satin to satin matte finishes on the skin are looking like more of a radiant matte finish than the hyper dewy looks we've been loving for the last few seasons. Get the look with a satin or satin matte finishing powder over your t-zone (the powder I keep reaching for is Sephora Collection Microsmooth Multitasking Baked Face Powder) + strategically placed highlighter rather than an all over glassy look. If a powder highlight is your thing, Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette in Universal 001 is my go-to for a glowing but not overly shimmery or glittery glow. If you're more of a cream highlight fan, I'm obsessed with Westman Atilier Lit Up Glow Highlighter Stick tapped over high points for a subtle dewy glow.

  • Pro Tip! Satin skin is especially stunning paired with the on-trend glossy eyes of the moment.

High Shine Lips

Super hydrated, shiny lips are here to stay! Glossy lips are comfortable to wear all year round & such a perfect compliment to a satin matte finish on your skin, and a hint of gloss on your eye lids seriously completes the look. Lip oils like Kosas Wet Oil Plumping Peptide Lip Treaetment Gloss are a fun choice if you like to add in skincare benefits, but Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in Glass Slipper will be my all time favorite)

Sunset Colors

Sunset tones on cheeks, eyes, and lips are flattering on every skin tone. Blush focused looks are sticking around, and going for a monochromatic look with similar tones on your cheeks, eyes, and lips is such an easy hack for a perfectly summery makeup look. The limited edition Tarte Spark Amazonian Clay Palette is a perfect choice if you're wanting a new shadow palette with perfectly paired color choices for this on-trend eye look, and with 6 shades it shouldn't feel too overwhelming to use.

Feathered Brows

I'm happy to report that the natural brow is here to stay, and the focus is on fluffy, feathered brows that look super natural. Brow pens are your friend here! My favorites are Anastasia Beverly Hills Brown Pen and Urban Decay Brow Blade. When in doubt, go for a shade lighter than you'd normally pick & give yourself time to practice finding the right amount of pressure when applying a brow pen...I find that a feather light tough is all you need to get the perfect hair-like strokes!
